Graham Smith wins a European award for photography
The winner of the Lex van Rossen award has just been made public at Eurosonic Noorderslag by festival director and chairmen of the jury Dago Houben. The winner is Graham Smith from Northern Ireland. Graham Smith received an amount of 2500 Euros, publications in several magazines and a photo shoot for Converse. The jury thought his pictures form a good and coherent series of an excellent documentary quality, which have been shot with a lot of feeling.
“Smith is a photo-journalist who documents what he sees. This is always a good starting point but as well as being highly skilled with the camera, Graham Smith’s work has a very genuine and passionate vibe. He has a real empathy with musicians, and is a very good all-rounder.”
The jury was extremely impressed by his intimate images and was therefore very interested in the future work of this photographer. This new prize, meant to encourage young music photographers, is named after Dutch music photographer Lex van Rossen.
